Red Light

have you ever felt like
the flashing red light on the roof,
lonely as ever
visible at night, useless by day?

in sync with its partner next door
for a quick kiss over a few flashes only
then arguing again and again
night in, night out.

have you ever felt like
the flashing red light on the roof,
not signaling a warning to keep away
but sending a call for compassion?

using the dark pauses in between
to yell the same name
over and over and over
into the emptiness of each night.

have you ever felt like
the flashing red light on the roof,
being your silent cry
only heard by your eternal love?

Ouch - Little White Lies

My hubby just fell out of bed He banged his elbow and his head Now I can hear groaning Expletives and moaning I’m certain that he isn’t dead! Only the first line is true – last night we watched a programme on how easily people lie but on this occasion I would call this poetic licence 10/10/18

Unwanted Guest

Awakened before dawn, I gasped for breath
A sound of dark foreboding breaks the still
Outside, the unrelenting, "song of death"
That soul collector, singing, " whip-poor-will"

Before twilight, he lands high in the pine
His feathers tan and brown, his neck plumes white
In repetitious cries that chill the spine
He calls lost souls to him before first light

And though no souls may come, he sings his song
So maddening, it makes the weary weep
His tax upon the living until dawn
The only payment he accepts is sleep

I hope the morning finds him a new tree
Someplace, far, far away, from sleeping me

4 Random Thoughts

(3 Haikus)

Immature - is a
word boring people use to
describe fun people

I should start a book,
a thick notebook to keep
inappropriate thoughts

Ever look at friends
and think, "Wow, we're gonna
be some weird adults?"

Sleep is my drug, my
bed is the dealer, my clock
the cops and school the jail.

You and Me In Bed

The thought of you and me in bed
rings alarm bells in my head
I don't know, it just doesn't seem right
to have you for myself all night

Of course, I love your torrid affection
I'm just very concerned about the direction
that our ahem, uh, er -- you know what I mean
when our lips meet under covers unseen

So I'll be the adult right here and now ~
I shall not sleep with my beloved meow

Snow White

Snow White took an unladylike bite
of a big red apple polished bright
	she snoozed quite a while
	he kissed her with guile
and they shared an afternoon delight

Puppy

Quote By Poet "Puppies and kittens are what little kids dreams are made of."

My puppy is tan and small,
she likes to sleep in mommy's shawl.
She loves to play ball,
while I play with my doll.
We like to play outside,
where she will run and hide.
I will put her in my doll buggy for a ride,
her smile becomes a mile wide.
It's time to go inside,
dinner is ready with chicken that has been fried.

Multiplication

Trying to fall asleep in Spring,
I found the trick of counting sheep,
Grazing in flocks and wandering,
Could not succeed in bringing sleep,

Following one another too,
Bleating meanwhile, and eyeing me,
They sauntered by, as all sheep do:
I watched them, counting patiently.

In Spring’s lush pastures so sublime,
It seemed that every flock would grow,
Filling the fields at lambing time,
In numbers more than I could know,

No rest would come, no pillowed bliss:
I saw there was no end to this.

When You Can'T Sleep

I have a secret that is very simple.
I’ll share it with you if I may.
When you can’t sleep,
Don’t count sheep.
Pray...

Pray for those you love,
And those who don’t love you.
Pray for your friends,
And for your enemies too.

Pray for your family-
All of them, not just one or two.
Pray for everyone who is sick, hurting, or lost.
And when you feel you are through,
Pray for you.

Blue Blanket

I sleep beyond its warmth
I envision upon its touch

In this world exists a hell lot of blankets
But this, ineffably, I admire very much

In shades of light blue
My blanket wraps me tight

Its color a deep, tender comfort
Resembling a departing night

Across the wide distances of cold
I am shielded amid its warm fluff

I begin to sink in skies, as soon as
I lay my head upon its cloudy puff

In this world exists a hell lot of blankets
But this, ineffably, I admire very much

I now yearn to sleep all day
Within its magical, surreal clutch

Duvet Day

It's warm beneath this duvet.
Outside it's cold and grey.
I wish I could roll over
And stay in bed today.
There's things I should be doing,
But if you'd let me choose
I'd stay beneath this duvet
And keep on pressing snooze

Sleep

Sleep
To wait
for a dream
wonderous scenes
of piquant parfaits
with a blended relish
of creamy fruit and almonds
savoring and ready to eat
daunted by an ogre's appearance
who gobbles it down and awakens you

Insomnapoet

Writing little rhymes such as this - there's little more as swell.
But a chore on this noggin, if you can't rightly tell.
I couldn't sleep a wink
the night my brain began to think,
"I can buy all the meds I desperately need, when these poems start to sell!"

NOTE: Far-fetched, but a man can dream.

Sure Cure For Making Up For Lost Sleep

Folks, I have to tell you I ain't been sleepin' all that well as of late.

Some of the problem is due to the obnoxious snorin' of my mate!

Or it could be the neighbor's barkin' dogs up and down the street,

And believe me, there are howlin' hounds and yappin' mutts replete!

I've tried numerous sleepin' aids off the pharmacist's shelf,

Tryin' to cure this dilemma and get some sleep for myself.

Eureka! I found a simple remedy for my plight in church today;

I fell fast asleep as soon as the pastor arose to have her say!

Sleep Tight

Sleep Tight

all his heroes wore costumes at night
wrapped around all their muscles so tight
his chances grew slim
at an outcome so grim
when his costume exposed – cellulite

Look out the window
And enjoy the eastern glow
Now get out of bed

Feet on a cold floor
In the middle of winter
Now get back in bed

A Cat On the Bed

There was a fat man who slept on the floor
Like the roar of tiger he used to snore
Sensing danger to her life
The house cat ran to his wife
Deaf lady put her on bed, closed the door.

My Noisy Toilet

Just a thin wall dividing my headboard from the john,
every night it played me a continuos running water song,
so got up and closed the valve,
my problem now temporarily solved,
posting a note on the lid, "don't resuscitate until dawn!"
