Going Bananas

Feeling lethargic,
Sue went on
a banana diet,
and started to feel
more energetic and alive,
walking past the
local playground,
she was going
to keep walking,
when she quickly
changed her mind...
Swinging round and round,
flipping upside down,
she couldn't believe
the bananas gave her
so much stamina,
one last go round,
she dismounted
landing perfectly
on the ground,
just like an
Olympic champion!

Bananas

Here come the sailors of the Seventh Fleet
With their bananas ripe, ready to eat
The ladies, they like them firm
Musty one’s make them squirm
Why can’t liberty always be so sweet!

Limes

They’re green and round not yellow and curvy
Bruised or mushed never—topsy turvy!
Peeled back skin often slimy
Best citrus fresh and limey
Sailor lime-juicer’s sucked to cure scurvy

Bananas

On the banana I shall e'er expound

I can consume bananas by the pound

When on a huge eating spree

         My spouse quickly reminds me

My knuckles are starting to drag the ground

Bananas

There was a lady from Montana
Who fell in love with a banana,
Which had such an appeal
She felt urged to reveal
They planned to elope to Havana.

She rented a seaside cabana
Nested between beach and savanna.
At a party she threw
Came a Chiquita new
And the new two flew to Montana.

Shamrocks and Bananas

Close your legs milady, the flies are buzzin' round The whiff of Irish shamrocks and bananas abound Quite a combo I say A parts raiser if I may Sorry milady, my restraints have unwound

A Man Eating Bananas

There was a man who ate bananas
Sitting on a unicycle
And spitting their seeds
At nearby passing buses
The sounds of beetles’ feet
Walking on the crinkled sidewalk
Driving him crazy.

This poem is in response to a nonsensical poem by Kenneth Patchen named The Man Who Saw a Grass. So, I thought I could write a similar poem that made no sense at all. I believe that I succeeded.

Gone Bananas

Monkey around, you’re called a clown
Live with primates, you’re an anthropologist

If you’re goofy and serious at the same time ~
     you’ve gone ‘bananas,’ Mr. Psychologist
